Bizet's immortal opera CARMEN (1875) has been a permanent part of the opera repertoire since its origin, and its popularity has not been  affected by any changes in musical aesthetics and style that have taken place over 140 years. On the contrary, the stunning storyline, the melodious wealth and the power of expression have contributed to the fact that it is one of the most played operas in the history of this genre.

Our project aims to offer young artists (opera singers and musicians) the opportunity to participate in the production of  Carmen opera in the beautiful surroundings of the Vilémov Castle in the Czech Republic, under the patronage of the world renowned soprano KS Gabriela Benáčková and musicians from professional orchestras.

The artists will also have the opportunity to present their experience publicly during the concert performances of Carmen.

​

The project is designed for young opera singers and orchestra players from 18 to 35 years of age. It is largely supported and co-funded by OPERA MLADYCH association, which has been actively pursuing opportunities for young and talented artists for ten years, helping them in artistic growth and gaining experience. Every opera singer or orchestra player at the beginning of his career have to have an opportunity to study the music parts with professional colleagues and have the opportunity to actually present them to the public.

Opera singers within this project will have a unique opportunity to work on their singing techniques with the legendary soprano KS Gabriella Beňacková. Yet, they will have the opportunity to study a complete opera role with the conductor and  with the orchestra. In addition to the preparation  with the pianist, the participants will have the opportunity to work  intensely with the orchestra and present their experience with the orchestra in front of the public.

The orchestra players within this project will have a unique opportunity to work in the orchestra under the guidance of professional players and conductor of the Slovak National Theater Branch Ladič. The project brings for the orchestra players the opportunity to improve in their field and to participate in real production with opera singers.

 

The prepared production of the Carmen opera will take place in the beautiful surroundings of the Vilémov Castle in the Czech Republic. All participants of this project will be housed in the rooms of Vilémov Castle. All participants will be able to use all the castle spaces for their artistic development without restriction. The music material in electronic form will be available to all singers and players by 1.6.2018 at the latest.

Admission to the project :

Guarantor of the project decides on admission to the project.

The capacity of the project is limited.

The cancidates are ranked according to the order of the submitted applications.

The organizer may request additional information from the applicant (eg recording, CV)

For opera singers who might be interested in, Gabriela Benackova will host the master class in two dates (July, August) where preparation for the Carmen project will take place ( details and conditions about prepared master class will be available during February, the latest).

After the application is sent, the participants will be informed by the organizer about the admission to the project (deciding on the availability and selection of the project's artistic quarantor).
